From Jem: For someone newly diagnosed

Hi lovely,

I wish I could reach through this page and just sit beside you for a moment. I know you’re terrified. I know the air feels different, heavy, strange. Your world has tilted — but you are still you.

Here’s what I want you to know:

You don’t need to have it all figured out. One hour at a time is enough.
You are not weak for being scared.
You are not failing if you cry.
You are not alone – not now, not ever.

You will find strength you didn’t know existed.
You will find gentleness you didn’t know you needed.
You will find people – nurses, friends, family – who will become angels in human form.

Let hope sit beside you.
Let grace wrap around you.
Let yourself be held.

This is not a journey you ever asked for, but I promise:
there will still be laughter,
there will still be joy,
there will still be moments that remind you you’re alive and loved.

You are already braver than you think.
And you are deserving of every kind of support.

With love,
Someone who’s walked this road before
