From Jem: How to let others love you through cancer

You don’t have to pretend you’re fine.
You don’t have to protect everyone from your pain.
You don’t have to carry this alone.

Let people in by starting small:

  • Say “yes” to the easy help
A meal. A school pickup. A load of washing.
  • Share the truth with one safe person
“Today is hard. Can you sit with me for a bit?”
  • Give your loved ones jobs
People want to help, but they need direction.
“Can you organise the medical folder?”
“Can you send updates to the group chat for me?”
“Can you drive me on Tuesday?”
  • Let them witness your vulnerable moments
    Tears are not a burden.
    Silence is not a burden.
    Needing is not a burden.

Letting others love you doesn’t make you weaker –
it makes you supported.
