From Jem: Noticing – and celebrating – the little things

Joy doesn’t disappear during the hardest seasons – it simply hides in smaller places.

You find it in:

  • a nurse who remembers your favourite biscuit
  • a child’s belly laugh
  • a dog curled at your feet
  • fresh sheets after a long day
  • a warm shower that loosens your shoulders
  • a message that arrives at the perfect moment
  • a stranger’s kindness
  • a day where nausea stays away
  • a moment where you forget you’re sick and just live.

Even the smallest things are worth celebrating:

  • getting out of bed
  • eating something
  • drinking enough water
  • showing up to treatment
  • cancelling plans you don’t have energy for
  • a day with fewer side effects
  • a good blood result
  • a smile you didn’t force
  • a walk to the mailbox
  • a laugh
  • hope returning after being gone awhile.

On this path, little wins are big wins. Give yourself permission to celebrate them all.
